- Title: Hannibal- The Man Who Hated Rome
- Date: 15th May 2004
- Summary: The true story of the Carthaginian who almost destroyed Rome.
- Description:SEE RECORD 127294 FOR SHOTLIST With dramatic reconstructions of often bloody battle scenes between Hannibal's Carthaginian army and the Romans, this programme tells the story of the general from Carthage whose battlefield skills brought Rome to its knees. If Carthage's rulers had supported their general more effectively, the Roman Empire might never have existed. As it was,Rome was allowed to rebuild its strength, and Hannibal was betrayed and defeated. He fled east, committing suicide rather than be captured. The Romans destroyed Carthage and attempted to wipe its entire civilisation from the face of the earth. The programme visits Tunisia to examine the little that remains of Carthage, and, using computer graphics, rebuilds some of the most important sites and shows how Carthaginian technology and Hannibal's battle tactics were the most advanced of the age.
