Summary:This programme looks at the issue of informed consent in modern medicine. Emma presents the programme from the Medical College of the Royal London Hospital which runs an informed consent course. The 1st film tells Caroline's story, who was given a hysterectomy by a surgeon at St Thomas' without her consent. Film 2 discusses the issue of consent for clinical research, and talks to a group of women who received treatment for cervical cancer, which was part of a research programme, and had devastating consequences. In film 3 Geoff Watts reports from Sheffield where doctors have been trying to find out how much information doctors/patients feel should be given.
