- Summary: (Episode nine) Debbie has been making a determined effort to get Marty back on the straight and narrow,he is due in court because he threatened the woman at the post office so Debbie has arranged a job interview for him,he is dressed in a suit and repeats to himself his motto; I am a good human being with a lot to offer,she has even taught him to replace his rude outbursts with non-offensive phrases instead. Just before he is to leave for the interview,however,he meets Sue,Craig's wife,and as no one told him they are separated he loses control and tries to kill Craig. Fiona stops him and after making a fool of himself Marty runs inside,missing the interview. Craig and Fiona are going away for the weekend to get some peace; Craig reveals that he has fixed the campervan so that it runs and that they are going for a trip on the open road. Sue turns up again demanding money from Craig; he thinks she is just trying to make things difficult for him and Fiona. Marty tells Sue he thinks she is gorgeous and that Craig is mad to give her up,she responds to this and they go out on a date. Sue and Marty come back to the house and make lots of noise which annoys Craig,then Sue tells Marty that she is still sleeping with Craig and Marty goes crazy and punches Craig. Craig tells Marty Sue is just using him and that he is a freak,Sue runs off upset that Craig doesn't want her and tells Marty to leave her alone. Fiona and Craig get ready to leave for their holiday and Veronica asks if she can move in. Kev's sister,Kelly-Marie,has turned up and she and Veronica hate each other. Just as they are about to leave Sue turns up and tells Craig his dad has died. The camping trip is off and Debbie is the only one who has noticed that Marty is missing. Veronica sees Kelly scoring drugs and discovers she is an addict,she locks her in the toilet and tells Kev she can go cold turkey. Marty tries to jump off of a tower block saying that he is a freak and he will never be like anyone else but Debbie manages to talk him round and Craig admits he would be good for Sue. The night before the court case Marty goes to Sue's house and they have sex,in the morning he doesn't show up and everyone thinks he has run away but now that he has a girlfriend Marty realises he doesn't want to go back to prison so he turns up at the last minute and gets let off. Craig's dad's funeral takes place that afternoon and after telling Marty that his dad always wanted to be cremated but his sister had chosen a burial,Marty sets fire to the coffin and everyone celebrates.

Veronica and Kev are good friends of the Gallagher's and live next door to the family while local policemen Tony and Stan tend to turn a blind eye whenever they can to keep the families out of trouble. Veronica's mum,Carol and brother Marty,who suffers from Tourettes syndrome,often join them down the local pub,The Jockey,where Kev works and which is run by lesbian landlady Jez. Sheila's daughter,Karen works at the pub having told Jez that she is gay and now lives in the flat upstairs as well. Ian is gay but only his twin brother Lip knows,he has been seeing Kash who runs the corner shop where he works for some time. Kash's wife Yvonne found out about them but has decided to stay in the marriage and keep quiet so she can get a few more kids out of him.
