- Title: 7 Days That Shook The Weathermen
- Date: 9th January 2005
- Summary: As part of the War on Terra season about climate change, Seven Days That Shook the Weathermen tells the story of seven different days of nightmare weather. This eye-opening programme bears witness to the extreme weather events that have started to provide solid evidence of dramatic climate change around the world - and gives warning of just how serious the consequences of this change may be. In 2002 America endured the largest number of tornadoes to ever be recorded in one week, while Britain experienced the hottest day on record. The previous year central Europe measured its highest ever amount of daily rainfall, and the 500 billion-ton Larsen B ice shelf collapsed in the Antarctic for the first time in 10,000 years. Similarly, this year has seen the most intense series of hurricanes to hit the States for decades. While, in the UK, scenes of chaos filled our TV screens as cars washed down the street following monsoon-like downpours in Cornwall. Seven Days That Shook the Weathermen brings home the reality of climate change - not as an abstract scientific theory, but as a practical demonstration of the dangers that it threatens - and, for some, has already delivered.
- Description:A film on wild weather and why a small rise in global temperatures means more Boscastle floods and more terrifying hurricanes rather than more sunbathing and palm trees. Presented by academic Iain Stewart with his particular expertise/interest in the environment.
